Sourcing scaffolding from China saves 30–50% compared with local fabrication, but the quality gap between factories is just as wide. Before you compare prices, screen suppliers with this checklist.
1. Mill Certificates, Not Promises
Ask for the EN 10219 / GB/T material certificate for the actual production batch — Q355B for standards and ledgers, not Q235 sold as Q355. A reliable factory sends certificates with every shipment and allows third-party inspection (SGS, TUV, BV) at any time.
2. Galvanizing Thickness in Writing
Hot-dip galvanizing is what makes scaffolding last 10+ years outdoors. Specify zinc coating ≥ 70 μm (or your local standard) in the contract, and verify with a coating-thickness gauge during inspection. Painted or "pre-galvanized" tubes cost less but rust through in 2–3 coastal seasons.
3. Welding Process
Rosette collars and cup joints are load-bearing welds. Ask whether the factory uses robotic welding for nodes — consistent penetration matters more than paint.
4. Real Production Capacity
A trading company and a factory quote the same, but a factory controls delivery. Ask for: monthly tonnage, whether galvanizing is in-house or outsourced (outsourcing adds 7–15 days and quality risk), and photos/video of the running line.
5. Dimensional Consistency
Rosette positions, ledger lengths and outer diameters must interchange with your existing inventory. Request a dimensional report and confirm compatibility with the system standard you already run.
6. Export Experience
FCL/LCL packing, fumigation-free steel pallets, shipping marks and export documentation should be standard. A factory that exports to 50+ countries handles this without hand-holding.
7. Responsiveness Before the Sale
How a supplier answers technical questions before you pay is the best predictor of after-sales support. An engineer who replies within 24 hours with drawings and load tables is worth 5% more on price.
